Beastie Boys Michael ‘Mike D’ Diamond and Adam ‘Ad-Rock’ Horovitz have issued a heartfelt memorial to their late bandmate Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch on what would have been his 48th birthday.
Tthe pair posted a short yet poignant message on their blog on Sunday night (US time). It read:
“Don’t know how to do this in a tweet or post or whatever, you know… honor someone who gave so much as a friend, musician, father, activist, and artist.
Approaching all with that crazy Yauch focus, drive, compassion and humor. Happy Birthday my brother. We miss you.

After being diagnosed in 2009, Yauch sadly lost his battle with salivary gland cancer on May 4, a brutal blow that sent shockwaves through the global music community. At the time, Horowitz posted: “As you can imagine, shit is just fkd up right now. But I wanna say thank you to all our friends and family (which are kinda one in the same) for all the love and support. I’m glad to know that all the love that Yauch has put out into the world is coming right back at him.”
Happy birthday, MCA… you are sorely missed.
