Gotye releases orchestra megamix of Gotye covers

Published on August 13th, 2012

In just over 12 months, Gotye’s global hit ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ has become the song everybody knows, going number one in 26 countries – including Australia, the US and the UK. It’s also spawned more online covers, remixes and parodies than we can remember.

Now Gotye, aka Melbourne’s Wally DeBacker, has taken all those interpretations and blended them into ‘Somebodies: A YouTube Orchestra’, an amazing audio-visual megamix featuring fans’ performances with guitar, saxophone, banjo, oud, toy xylophone, keyboards, voice and even drink bottles. Not only is the mix an impressive technical feat, it’s an eye-opening testament to the impact the song has had the world over.

Along with the video, Wally posted this message:

“Reluctant as I am to add to the mountain of interpretations of Somebody That I Used To Know seemingly taking over their own area of the internet, I couldn’t resist the massive remixability that such a large, varied yet connected bundle of source material offered… Thank you to everyone who has responded to Somebody That I Used To Know via YouTube.” (read the full message)

Far from taking a break, Wally and his band will tour throughout the rest of 2012,  landing in Korea and Japan this week, then the US and Europe before winding up with homecoming shows in Australia in December. Check out his tour schedule via his Facebook.
